Quantum Computing Inc. Wins Fifth NASA Contract to Advance Quantum Sensing for LiDAR Missions

Quantum Computing Inc. (QCi) has secured its fifth contract with NASA to develop quantum remote sensing technology aimed at significantly reducing the cost of spaceborne LiDAR missions. The new project seeks to make LiDAR imaging for atmospheric measurements more affordable, allowing NASA to increase the frequency of flights to better study climate change mechanisms.

The awarded contract builds on a longstanding partnership between QCi and NASA, focusing on a new approach to LiDAR technology that leverages QCi’s advanced quantum remote sensing solutions. The proposed technology aims to lower mission costs from billions to millions of dollars, enhancing NASA’s capability to conduct frequent and cost-effective climate monitoring.

QCi’s recent work with NASA includes utilizing its Dirac-3 entropy quantum optimization machine to reduce background noise in satellite LiDAR data. The technology simulates sunlight-induced noise, transforming the denoising challenge into an optimization problem. This collaboration positions QCi as a key player in advancing remote sensing and climate research.
